"Red wine is good for your gut."
We are constantly learning about the beneficial aspects of red wine. Recently, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that "men who drank two glasses of red wine (a total of nine ounces) per day had higher levels of beneficial bacteria in their gut and lower levels of Clostridium, a bacteria linked to bowel disease and colon cancer. Theory: Researchers believe the polyphenol antioxidants in wine promote a better balance of bacteria."

Over the nearly two decades I have been in the retail wine business, I have witnessed many changes to our industry. Wines that were "allocated" became wines that were stacked in stores, then they became wines that sat on shelves collecting dust. The world of wine reviews was dominated by print media heavyweights, Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. These days the rise of bloggers is having the greatest impact on how we "learn" about our favorite beverage. There is no shortage of good bloggers to be found and two of my favorites right now are David White's - "Terroirist" and Joe Robert's - 1 Wine Dude.
